New Work by Michael Cutlip
November 9 through December 23, 2017
We are pleased to present new work from Bay Area/Hawaii mixed media collage artist Michael Cutlip, this will be his first featured exhibit with the gallery.
Michael Cutlip begins his process by wandering the city streets in search of paper. He has no particular expectations for the type of discarded material that becomes the palette for his work. Cutlip builds up numerous layers of collage on his panels, some of which will never be visible to the viewer as the layers overlap. This is what Cutlip describes as a method to let go of the precious quality. This piling up is visible from the side of the panel that exposes a strong sense of history. Through the act of freedom, knowledge, and exploration Cutlip lets the work tell him what to do.
Michael Cutlip received his BA in Studio Art from California State University Hayward. His work can be found in numerous collections including, the Microsoft Corporation, Triton Museum of Art in Santa Clara, CA, Bloomingdales, Sutter Health, and Singer/Songwriter Sarah McLachlan.
