Axis Gallery will present the art of Josephine Devanbu, Douglas Holmes, Joanna Kidd, Kathryn Mayo, Kyle Dunn, Linda Miller, Eddy Stein, Nathan Cordero, Gioia Fonda, Danielle Wogulis, Tricia Talle on 2nd Saturday, January 14, 2017.
Axis Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibit of work by artists that have been “picked” by Axis members. Each member has chosen one artist to exhibit a work of art for the month of January. It promises to be an exhibit with a wide range of media and approaches.
Joanna Kidd was chosen by Axis member Dixie Laws and is a northern California printmaker, sculptor, and video installation artist. After studying at Dartmouth College and San Francisco State University, she moved to Florence Italy for eight years, and received a BFA and an MFA from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze. She has been an Artist-in-Residence at Everglades National Park, Arts Benicia, and at the California Society of Printmakers “Printers Series” artist residency at Gruenwald Press. She has participated in exhibitions and video festivals in Europe and across the United States. Her work is included in the collection of the Achenbach Foundation for Graphic Arts of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. She currently teaches at Yuba College, Woodland Community College, and the UC Davis Craft Cente
Douglas Holmes was chosen by Janice Nakashima. Douglas has lived and worked in the bay area since he graduated with an MFA from CCAC in 1970. He taught at San Francisco State University and at Tyler School of Art, Temple University in Philadelphia, PA where he was the chair of the sculpture department. He lives and works in Alameda where he and his wife, photographer and filmmaker, Karen Holmes, share a house and adjoining studio that they built themselves. His work has long had landscape and environmental references which he shapes with political purpose around his formal concerns. Although he has done many full, in-the-round, sculptures, relief sculpture has been a constant element of his work.
